The aim of this mini-site

The aim of this mini-site is to facilitate the study of a human coastal conflict. The experience is based upon what happened to the Devonshire village of Hallsands in 1912. The mini-site is structured as a geographical mystery where the aim is to answer the enquires being made by Mrs Charlotte Houston, an American lady who wishes to visit her grandmother's house.

Using this mini-Site

This site is based upon a method commonly used in geographical education called a 'mystery'.

One of the main features of a mystery exercise is the sorting of information. I have attempted to present the information as a series of images in a number of galleries which can be clicked through. There is textual evidence as well as images and a geographical situation which can be studied by using Google Earth or similar.

I will still give my students the information/evidence as pieces of card and get them to sort the information. The presentation of information/evidence on this site will help support the students through follow-up exercises etc.
