Task One - World Map of Biomes

Copy the map above onto a blank work map. Add a key and a title. While you are adding each of the different biomes you should be thinking about what affects the climate in that location.

Task Two - Biome Summary Sheet

Use an online source or an atlas (such as Philip's International School Atlas (Philip's School Atlases)) to complete the following table:
Location or other comment
Tropical Rain Forest
Savanna [Tropical Savanna and Grassland]
Polar or high-mountain ice [Polar and Mountainous Ice Desert]
Chaparral [Mediterranean Hardwood Forest and Scrub]
Temperate grassland [Temperate Grasslands, Prairie and Steppe]
Temperate deciduous forest [Temperate Deciduous Forest and Meadow]
Coniferous forest [Northern Coniferous Forest]
Tundra [Arctic Tundra]
Page 26/27 of the Philip's International School Atlas (Philip's School Atlases) is very good for this task.

Task Three - What am I? poems

Produce a 'What am I?' poem for a biome - can the people in your class guess which biome you are describing?

There are some examples below ... (not of biomes!)

I always run but never walk,
I have a mouth but never talk,
I always travel down and never up ... What am I?

I walk on,
4 legs in the beginning,
2 legs in the middle,
3 legs in the end ... What am I?

I can sizzle like bacon,
I am made with an egg,
I have plenty of backbone, but lack a good leg,
I peel layers like onions, but still remain whole,
I can be long, like a flagpole, yet fit in a hole ... What am I?
