Task One: Adjectives

First job - find the first clear double page spread in your exercise book. Write the title 'Tropical Rainforests' at the top of one page and 'Deserts' at the top of the other.

Write the sub-heading 'Adjectives' on each page. Brainstorm as many adjectives as possible to describe the biomes in the images below.

You may want to give yourself just one minute to do each brainstorm.

Task Two: Describing Location

Under the sub-heading 'Location' describe the global distribution of each of the two biomes we are focusing upon this lesson - Tropical Rainforests and Deserts.

Task Three: Explaining Location

Use your knowledge of latitude, prevailing winds and atmospheric circulation to help you explain why these biomes are found where they are.

Task Four: Climate Graphs

Climate Graph

A climate graph displays the average monthly temperature (red line) and the average amount of precipitation (blue bars) for a location. You are going to produce a climate graph for a location in a desert and one in a tropical rainforest.

You will want to compare the two climate graphs so ensure that your graphs have the same scale.

Locations: Manaus, Brazil and Agadez, Niger. Click on the locations to collect the data necessary to plot the climate graphs. You may want to copy the data into a table before starting to draw the graphs.

Stick your climate graphs into your exercise book.

Task Five: Just right for the job!

Linking what you know about the climate of the tropical rainforests and deserts biomes explain how the vegetation in the images below is specially adapted to thrive in those biomes.
