Recent Drought in Australia Task

As a group research, produce and give a presentation about recent drought conditions in Australia.

Each member of the group will focus upon one section of the presentation. The presentation should be produced collaboratively using Google Docs - Presentations.

The first task will be to use the Internet to research possible sources of information. The wikipedia page on a topic is usually a good place to start, especially the references section at the bottom.

Presentation Section 1

Where did it happen?

• A written description of the location.
• A map of the location including points of geographical interest.
• Can you produce a sketch map of the location?

Presentation Section 2

When did it happen?

• Date.
• Duration.
• Include the sequence of events to show the speed of onset and the pace of management and recovery.

Presentation Section 3

Why did it happen?

• The physical conditions that caused the hazard
• What metrological conditions caused the hazard?

Presentation Section 4

Who was affected by it happening?

• What were the effects/consequences of the hazard event?
• Categorize the effects/consequences as being:
  • Economic
  • Social
  • Environmental
  • Political

Presentation Section 5

What happened?

• Describe the management of the hazard event - before, during and after?
• Planning, preparation, prediction, hazard mapping, evacuation, warnings.
• Help with recovery, aid - local, regional and international, role of NGOs.

• Finally - produce a one paragraph summary of the hazard event.
