- Which tectonic plates are involved and at what rate is one plate being forced under the other.
- How do aftershocks make the situation more difficult?
- What affect do the 'densely populated suburbs' have?
- Why were people living in older houses more at risk than people living in more modern constructions?
- The earthquake had not been predicted. How could the prediction of the quake made the situation worse?
- What is the death toll according to the BBC report? Use an internet search to find the final death toll? You may need to look at more than one source.
Extension / Homework Task:
The 1923 Tokoyo Earthquake is mentioned in the BBC News Report. Produce a case study for the 1923 quake by answering these questions: When? / Where? / Why? / The effects? Your case study should be about 1 side of A4 and include at least one map and several images of the damage/effects. |
