Climate Change - What is it?

We will be using the term 'Climate Change' rather than 'Global Warming' as the later is an over simplification of the situation. Popular belief is that the world is getting warmer at an unnatural rate but this will cause changes in weather systems that could leave some places colder, wetter, drier etc.

Greenhouse Effect
Blank Greenhouse Effect Diagram

Through this unit on 'Environmental Issues - Climate Change' you are going to be building up your notes in PowerPoint due to the easy in which you can incorporate images and link parts of your notes together.

This lesson you are going to start your notes:

  1. Open PowerPoint.
  2. Copy and paste the 'Blank Greenhouse Effect Diagram' from above into PowerPoint.
  3. Add labels to the diagram to explain the greenhouse effect. Your labels should include information about the following: the energy coming from the sun, the layer of greenhouse gases, how energy passes through the layer of greenhouse gases and then has trouble escaping and the sources of the greenhouse gases
  4. Research the four main greenhouse gases (Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Chlorofluorocarbons) and present your findings on the next slide. Where do these gases come from? Find a table of data or a diagram that shows how much of each greenhouse gas comes from different sources - for example how much comes from the burning of fossil fuels?
