Using either the A4 Version or the Google Earth version of the World Map of Climate Classification mark the Tundra (ET) onto a blank world map. Ensure that your map has a title and a key.

Use Google Image Search to find some images of the Tundra and it's wildlife. You may need to do a negative search as the vehicle manufacturer Toyota has a truck called a Tundra. So you may need to search for 'Tundra -toyota'.

Describe the landscape, the vegetation and the wildlife. How have the wildlife (animals and plants) specialised to survive in the Tundra's harsh conditions.

Produce a climate graphs - one for location in the Tundra - Cambridge Bay, Canada. You can find the necessary data by clicking on the WorldClimate.com banner below.

Using Excel to Produce a Climate Graph

Step 1:
Open the Excel and in a cell near the top left type Month. Type January in the next cell, followed by February, etc.

Step 2:
Type Temperature (°C) in the cell below the word 'Month' and then enter the temperature data in the cells under each month.

Step 3:
Type Rainfall (mm) into the cell below the word 'Temperature' and then enter the rainfall data in the cells under each month.

Step 4:
Highlight all the data that you have entered and click on the Chart Wizard icon in the toolbar.

Step 5:
Choose the first type of Column graph and then carry on until you get to Step 3 of the wizard.

Step 6:
Type in the graph title e.g. Climate Graph of Anytown, then the x-axis label e.g. Months and then finally type in Rainfall (mm) for the y-axis.

Step 7:
Select the Legend tab at the top of the wizard and untick 'Show Legend'.

Step 8:
Click next and in Step 4 of the wizard choose the option ‘As new sheet’. Give it a name and click Finish.

Step 9:
The next task is to convert the temperature data to a line graph. Move your mouse over one of the temperature columns and right-click. From the option box that opens, choose ‘Chart Type’ and then ‘Line’ graph as the type of graph. The temperature data will then be plotted as a line graph.

Step 10:
The next task is to move the temperature line upwards. To do this, right-click on the line, choose ‘Format Data Series’ from the option box that appears, then select the Axis tab at the top and click on ‘Secondary axis’.

Step 11:
The final task is to add a label to the new y-axis on the right. To do this, click on the chart wizard again and move
through to Step 3. In Step 3, a new box should have appeared called ‘Secondary value (Y) axis’. Use this to enter a label for the temperature data e.g. Temperature (°C)

Step 12:
You can (after saving the graph) go back and alter any aspect of it e.g. the colours of the bars or lines, edit the title and axis labels, etc, etc.

Add another column to your summary table and then analysis your Tundra climate graph.

The table should show the following pieces of information:

Hottest Month
Temperature (°C) of Hottest Month
Coldest Month
Temperature (°C) of Coldest Month
Wettest Month
Amount of rainfall (mm) during Wettest Month
Driest Month
Amount of rainfall (mm) during Driest Month

Produce a one side of paper (A4) factsheet that will help prepare people if they are thinking about going on holiday to somewhere in the Tundra, such as Cambridge Bay, Canada.

Your factsheet should cover the following pieces of information:

  • What the weather could be like - by month?
  • What clothes the tourists should take to cope with the weather?
  • Is there a great difference between summer and winter?
  • Provide a tick list of animals and plants that tourists should expect to see in the Tundra?
