Students should be able to:
  • Be able to classify industries as primary, secondary or tertiary.
  • Understand that countries of differing levels of development will have different percentages of their population working in primary, secondary and tertiary industries.
  • Understand that farming is a primary industry. Be able to link climate to types of farming activity - include local case study and french wine making.
  • Show an understanding of how farming has changed the landscape over time.
  • Understand that manufacturing is a secondary industry.
  • Describe the location factors that are important when choosing a site for a manufacturing plant.
  • Describe how location factors change over time and therefore how cities have changed as industry location factors have.
  • Understand that tourism is a tertiary industry.
  • Describe the growth of global tourism and explain that tourism is very important to the economy of various countries, especially LEDCs.

  • Produce pie charts using Excel.
  • Use Windows Movie Maker to capture still images from a video.
