The Global Population

Poodwaddle.com

I have added a new resource to the MYP Demography > 7 Billion Soon? unit. It is a redevelop of existing resources on geographyalltheway.com. One reason for the redevelopment is to make the lesson easier to run with just a computer/projector and students working with paper/exercise books.

The ‘The Global Population‘ lesson can be found here.

A380 Convoy – The Geography of Manufacture

A380 Wing - Levignac

I will be leaving Toulouse at the end of this month to go and live near Geneva.  One of the things on my checklist of ‘things I want to do before I leave Toulouse’ was to see one of the convoys of A380 sections as it passes through the French countryside on it’s way to the Airbus factory at Toulouse airport.  One Wednesday, completely by chance I was lucky enough to near bump into one!

The parts of the A380 are made throughout Europe with the final product – the A380 – being assembled in Toulouse.  The following diagram shows some of the locations involved:

There is an excellent article produced by the Guardian that explores the journey of the parts to Toulouse.  It can be read here.  It makes an interesting case study or international manufacture.
