A Mobile Blogging Setup

I wanted to be easily add to my blog while out and about. I realise it is easy to Twitter but I was looking for a way of saying more than 140 characters and inserting pictures and audio.

So after a little thinking, playing and testing here is the set up I’m going to trail while away on Community Week next week.

I have set up a Tumblr blog as Tumblr have a great, simple to use iPhone app. The RSS feed from that blog is syndicated into my geogalot (a WordPress blog) using the FeedWordPress plugin.

I’m off for a week in Chamonix next week for some initial testing then Morocco at Easter time.

  • Hi Rich,
a good alternative to tumblr would have been posterous which can also cross post to blogs, twitter, flickr etc and easily takes iphone voice notes, video and images. I experimented with a number of ways of moblogging, but doing it by e-mail from my BlackBerry is by far the most straightforward, and the format takes care of itself
  • Hi Kenny. Posterous would have been my second choice. The Tumblr iPhone app will easily do text, photos and audio. Tumblr also seems quicker to generate RSS - and therefore post into this blog. I'll test the system next week.
